OnlyRead is a free, open-source Chrome extension that gives AI browser agents read-only access to web applications. The extension allows agents to read and search through your web apps while blocking any operations that would change data, such as sending messages, posting content, deleting information or making purchases. It works with any AI agent that drives a Chromium browser, including Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and others. OnlyRead includes both a free tier with bring-your-own-model-key functionality and a Pro tier in early access that offers fully managed hosting with no API key setup required.

No. OnlyRead is a free, open-source Chrome extension that gives AI browser agents read-only access to your web apps. It limits what can change in the apps you guard by blocking operations that would send, post, delete or make purchases, while allowing reads and searches to continue.
Requests classified as changes are blocked while reads continue. Some apps use the same endpoint for reads and writes, so app-specific rules and request classification are important. It creates a strong boundary but is not a guarantee against every possible change.
Rarely, but yes. Most requests are decided before consulting a model: through rules, per-app decoders and hand-reviewed verdicts. For the rest, the judge is tested on real requests but can still misjudge. OnlyRead is a strong safety net, not a guarantee, and you should monitor what your agents do in important accounts.
Settings and decision logs stay in Chrome storage. Most requests are decided locally. On Free, decisions go to your own model provider with your key. On Pro, decisions go to OnlyRead's service, which never stores the request content.
