Task scheduling and resource management for multiple coding agents running simultaneously on the same machine or across machines.

The story so far

Homepage of dibs

dibs is a scheduling and coordination system for coding agents. It ensures every agent running on your machine gets a turn to execute tasks like builds, tests, and deploys without collisions. Agents communicate with each other through dibs tell and dibs say commands, while you receive only critical decisions that require human approval.

The system manages shared resources by tracking memory and disk usage, pausing lower-priority jobs under resource pressure, and preventing new tasks from starting when disk space drops below 5 GB. Each agent wraps commands in dibs run to queue them, and the board shows the status of all agents, their waiting jobs, progress, and resource availability.

dibs connects browsers and AI clients like Claude through an end-to-end encrypted relay at app.dibs.cc. For distributed work, multiple machines can be joined into a single group where --anywhere sends jobs to whichever machine would start them soonest. The system also supports scheduling jobs for specific times with dibs later and managing shared API rate limits with quota buckets.

Questions and answers

How does dibs prevent agents from colliding with each other?

Each agent wraps its command in dibs run and waits its turn. The turn lasts exactly as long as the command. When it exits, crashes or gets kill -9'd, dibs kills its process tree and the next agent goes.

What happens when the machine runs out of memory or disk?

dibs tracks available memory and disk. Under critical memory pressure, it pauses lower-priority jobs. When less than 5 GB of free disk space remains, no new jobs start.

Can I connect to dibs from a browser or other client?

Yes. Sign in at app.dibs.cc with an email link or passkey, and every browser opens all your machines with end-to-end encryption. Claude and other MCP clients can connect with read-only tools or full actions with --allow-actions.

How do I use dibs across multiple machines?

Add a second machine with a one-time code using dibs connect and dibs join. Use --anywhere to send jobs to whichever machine would start them soonest, with one board for all machines.

What system requirements does dibs need?

dibs runs on macOS and Linux, including WSL. It requires Node 22.23.4, 24.22.1, 26.12.1 or newer, and does not require sudo.
