About Open Source

Open source is where makers hand over the keys. The code is public, the licence says what you may do with it, and anyone can read it, fork it or fix it. On Zivaro Launch this shelf is for solo builders and small bootstrapped teams who ship that way, usually without funding and with a stubborn habit of answering issues late at night.

This page lists the products and businesses in open source and its subcategories, with filters to narrow things down. Listings appear newest first, and you can sort by community votes instead. Votes can never be bought. When you compare, read the licence, check whether the project is still being worked on, and ask how the maker plans to keep the lights on. Free code still has a cost.

Open Source: questions answered

What belongs in Open Source on Zivaro Launch?
Anything whose source is published under a licence that lets others use, study and change it, and which a maker is actively launching. That covers finished apps, code you build with, tools you run yourself and openly released AI. Closed products with a public API do not fit.
How do I choose between the subcategories?
Ask how a person meets your product. If they install and use it, pick apps. If they import it into their own code, pick libraries. If they run it on their own server, pick self-hosted tools. If models or weights are the point, pick open source AI.
How do I get my project listed here?
Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from that site, then you check and edit every field before anything goes live. Your main category is included free. A paid launch costs $5; a free listing waits in a queue of about 6-8 weeks.
Can a project sit in more than one open source subcategory?
Every listing has exactly one main category, chosen at submission. If your project genuinely straddles two shelves, such as a self-hosted tool with local AI built in, a paid upgrade adds more categories for $5. Choose the main one by how most people first use it.
How are open source listings ordered?
Newest first by default, so fresh launches are seen before older ones. Visitors can switch to sorting by community votes. Votes can never be bought, so a high position reflects what people chose to back, not what a maker paid for.
