The story so far
Reika is a coding agent CLI that works with both local and hosted AI models. It is designed around small local models first, making it careful with context, failing more gracefully, and being transparent when stuck.
The tool includes context discipline to preserve prompt cache for slow local engines, loop breaking to detect and stop repeated reads and runaway reasoning, and checks on the model's work through blind edits, TypeScript typechecking, and plan progress tracking. It offers multiple modes for different jobs: plan before changes, test-and-review procedures, small windows, or just chat.
Reika prioritizes safety by default with dangerous commands still prompting and shell commands running in a kernel sandbox on macOS. It is measured and transparent, with default-on features that have an off switch for A/B runs, and published results on what they did and didn't fix. The tool is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license.
