RefereeAhead is a self-check tool for life-science researchers before manuscript submission. Upload a manuscript and receive a structured pre-submission review in about 30 minutes that identifies concerns referees are likely to raise, each tied to the specific sentence that triggers it, why it matters, and what to change.
The service uses two independent review passes that are merged together, checked against Crossref and Retraction Watch, and ranked by severity from major to minor concerns. A free scan shows the count of issues and the most serious one; the full report includes every finding with quotes, reasons and fixes. Researchers can upload revisions to see which issues were resolved and what is new, helping track changes across drafts.
All manuscripts are processed only to write the review, never used to train models, and deleted from storage within 30 days. RefereeAhead publishes its accuracy metrics on reviewbench, showing how many of real referees' major concerns it successfully identifies.

Every release is run against reviewbench using published eLife manuscripts whose real referee reports are public. The service counts how many of the referees' major concerns the report also raised, publishes that number, and includes concern types where accuracy is weakest.
No. Manuscripts are never used to train models, and the model providers' API terms do not allow training on what is sent. Files are deleted from storage 30 days after your report, and you can delete sooner from your account.
If a full report contains fewer than three substantive issues, you can email within 30 days and receive a refund with no form or argument required.
