Private Writing Assistant is a Chrome extension that provides spelling and grammar checking across 101 languages. The extension detects the language of every sentence automatically, allowing users to mix multiple languages in a single message. All processing runs on the AI model built into Google Chrome, ensuring that text never leaves your device and nothing is uploaded to servers.
The extension works in text boxes, email drafts, Google Docs, and Google Slides. Users can fix individual mistakes or apply all corrections at once. The product requires Chrome 138 or newer on Windows, macOS, Linux, or a Chromebook Plus, with 22 GB of free disk space and either a GPU with more than 4 GB of memory or 16 GB of RAM.

The extension checks spelling and grammar entirely on your device using the AI model built into Google Chrome. Your text, the suggestions the model makes, and the addresses of pages you visit are processed only on your device and are never transmitted to servers or shared with third parties.
The extension supports 101 languages and automatically recognizes the language of every sentence, allowing you to mix multiple languages in a single message.

From version 1.1.1, the extension sends usage statistics to PostHog on by default, but you can turn this off anytime using the Share usage stats switch in settings. The statistics never include your text, page content, or the corrections suggested.
