GeoLens is an open-source, self-hosted geospatial data catalog built for teams working with spatial data. It provides a searchable catalog where teams can find, preview, map and share datasets, powered by OGC APIs that feed directly into QGIS and ArcGIS Pro. The platform includes a browser-based map builder for composing multi-layer maps, a semantic search engine for discovering datasets, and support for raster and COG tiles.

Key capabilities include data ingestion from multiple formats, spatial analysis operations like buffer and clip that run server-side in PostGIS, role-based access control with per-dataset permissions, and integration with standard protocols like STAC and DCAT. The software runs on your own infrastructure via Docker, sends no telemetry, and keeps data in standard PostGIS and open formats for complete portability.

Questions and answers

Is GeoLens free to use?

Yes. GeoLens is open source under the Apache 2.0 license. You can download, run and modify the catalog, map builder, APIs, CLI and SDKs on your own infrastructure without a license fee.

What do I need to run it?

A Linux or macOS machine with Docker Engine 24 or newer, Docker Compose 2.20 or newer, 8 GB of memory available to Docker, and ports 8080, 8001 and 5434 free.

Can I bring my data from ArcGIS?

Yes. Import ArcGIS FeatureServer layers by URL, or move a whole ArcGIS Online organization or self-hosted portal with the geolens arcgis migrate command.

Does anything leave my network?

GeoLens sends no telemetry. The default basemap loads its style, tiles and fonts from OpenFreeMap, which you can replace on an isolated network. Any other outbound traffic comes from integrations you turn on, such as an AI provider, single sign-on, email or a remote data source.

Is it actively maintained?

Yes. New GeoLens releases ship several times a month, each with release notes, and the upgrade guide lists what changes in each version.
