The story so far
DebugAI is a VS Code extension that debugs errors by pre-indexing your entire project and tracing errors across files automatically. When an exception fires, it reads the stack trace, pulls the files that matter, and presents a fix in a native diff format that you can apply with one click.
Unlike general AI chat tools, DebugAI understands your actual code structure: file organization, imports, and call chains. It can retrieve related code through embeddings, showing the model what a senior teammate would open. On the free tier, it uses Claude Haiku for quick errors; paid tiers add Claude Sonnet for complex issues.
The tool includes a proactive scan feature that ranks files most likely to break based on recent changes, error history, and size. It also maintains error memory, tracking previous errors in your project and surfacing fixes that worked before. For AI coding agents, DebugAI works as a standalone MCP server that can be set up with one command.
