AfterPack protects web apps from reverse engineering by obfuscating JavaScript code after your bundler, with each build producing structurally different output
The story so far
Homepage of AfterPack
AfterPack is a post-build JavaScript obfuscator that runs after your bundler as the last step before deployment. It rewrites code to resist reading, copying, and automated analysis, with the default light preset renaming identifiers and encoding string literals. The command-line tool and build plugins are free and open source, running entirely on your own machine. Pro runs the full pipeline in the cloud, allowing you to aim heavier protection at specific code regions with directives, and keeps records of every build with its Protection Map. Each build produces structurally different output due to per-build polymorphism, making patches from one release incompatible with the next.
Typeset features
Per-build polymorphism: every build ships structurally different code
Works with any framework and bundler
Runs on Cloudflare Workers at the edge
Open source CLI and framework plugins
Protection Map shows what was protected
String literal encoding by default
Control flow flattening in medium+ presets
CSP-safe output with no eval()
Directives to target protection at specific code regions
Security scanner to audit live bundles
Pricing
Pricing model: Freemium
Free: unlimited local builds, 10 MB of Pro builds per month, 2 projects. Pro Indie: $132/month (billed yearly at $1,590, two months free), 3 GB of Pro builds per month, $0.12/MB past 3 GB, 5 projects. Pro Team and Enterprise available.
AfterPack is a post-build JavaScript obfuscator that takes the bundle your toolchain produces and rewrites it so that reading or searching it costs disproportionate effort. It runs after your bundler, never modifies your source, and draws a new seed on every build, so two builds of the same code come out structurally different.
Is AfterPack free?
Yes. The local engine is unmetered and unlimited: run it on as much code as you like with no account and no card. A free account adds 10 MB of Pro builds a month, 2 projects and a dashboard. Paid plans start at $49 a month.
Is it open source?
The CLI and the framework plugins are open source. Development happens in the open on GitHub where the CLI and build plugins are published.
Does obfuscation slow my code down?
Modestly. Restructuring control flow and reconstructing constants adds runtime work, but on a typical web app the cost is usually small relative to network and rendering time. The bigger the preset, the more it costs.
How do I protect API keys and license logic?
Mark them with directives. Use an inline comment with preset=extreme on a secret literal to encode it, and wrap the function that gates licensing in a block with preset=hard. Extreme raises complexity to 25 with the string floor forced on, so the literal is encoded rather than shipped in cleartext.
