An AI-powered Safari extension that automatically summarizes long articles as you open them, letting you read the key points first.
The story so far
Homepage of SumSpot
SumSpot is a Safari extension that summarizes long articles automatically as you open them on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The app reads pages as they load and presents the summary right in the browser, letting you decide whether to read the full article.
The extension works across the web on news sites, blogs, long-form reporting, release notes, documentation and research write-ups. Once enabled for a site, it summarizes pages without requiring any action from you.
You can control where SumSpot runs: allow it on one site, every site, or nowhere, and change your settings whenever you like. The summary appears in the page you're already viewing with no need to switch apps or manage saved articles.
SumSpot reads the page as it loads and sends the page text to OpenAI's API to generate the summary. The page address and visible text go to SumSpot's server running on Amazon Web Services, which passes the text to OpenAI for summarization.
Do I need to create an account?
No, SumSpot does not require you to create an account or provide your name or email address.
What happens to the pages I read?
Your installation has a random ID to track subscriptions and count free summaries. SumSpot keeps a copy of the page address, text and summary but does not store the ID with the pages. The ID is kept separate from the stored content.
Does SumSpot work on all websites?
SumSpot works across the web on news sites, blogs, long-form reporting, release notes, documentation, and research write-ups. You can control which sites it runs on through granular permission settings.
Is my data used to train AI models?
OpenAI does not use text sent through its API to train or improve its models unless the sender opts in to share it, which SumSpot has not done. OpenAI keeps API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days to check for misuse.
