Symbols in text messages are Unicode characters you send as text, not stickers or images. They include hearts, stars, arrows, check marks, emoji, and kaomoji faces. Because they are real characters, they paste into SMS, iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram DMs, Discord, and email the same way a letter does. Free Text Symbols is a free library of those glyphs where you can search or open a collection, tap a character to copy it, or open info to download a PNG.
Symbols on text messages add meaning that words skip. A heart usually means love or like, a star marks a favorite, fire often means impressive, and a skull in slang can mean you are laughing hard. Classic dingbats like hearts and stars look similar on every phone. Color emoji can change by device. There is no single official dictionary. If you are unsure what a glyph is, you can search this catalog by name or paste the character into the search bar to see its Unicode name.
Copy a flower character and paste it into your chat. Unicode florets work almost everywhere like ✿ ❀ ❁ ✾ ⁕. Color flower emoji add a fuller look when the app supports them like 🌹 🌷 🌸 💐 🌺 🥀. Symbols next to a text thread are usually status icons from the app, not decoration inside the bubble. WhatsApp uses one gray check (sent), two gray checks (delivered), and two blue checks (read). iMessage shows Delivered or Read under the conversation. Android Messages may show a timestamp, a small avatar, or an error triangle if a send failed. That is different from Unicode you paste into the message itself — hearts, stars, flowers, and kaomoji sit inside the text. Status ticks cannot be copied from this library; decorative text symbols can.
Text symbols are called Unicode characters, special characters, glyphs, dingbats, emoji, or kaomoji — depending on the style. “Dingbat” covers classic signs such as ♥ ★ ✿. “Emoji” are the color picture characters. “Kaomoji” are faces built from punctuation, such as (｡♥‿♥｡). People also search for fancy letters, gothic text, and copy-and-paste symbols. Each one has a code point (U+2665 is the black heart). Open a symbol’s info on this site to copy the Unicode name, HTML entity, or CSS escape.
