Eerlijk over Thuisbatterijen is an independent online calculator and knowledge base for Dutch homeowners deciding whether to buy a battery. The tool compares 97 battery models from 23 brands using the same calculation method, accounting for your electricity consumption, solar panel setup, and energy contract type. It processes hourly data for a full year and shows payback periods and net returns over 15 years.
The calculator was built by Jos Hollestelle after a sales pitch gave him an unrealistic payback calculation. Notably, it provides negative buying advice when a battery does not make financial sense, considering the end of the Dutch net metering scheme on 1 January 2027. The tool requires no account, email or phone number, and immediately generates a ten-page PDF report with the lowest prices from 11 online shops.

Technically no, but practically in the Netherlands, a home battery without solar panels is almost never financially worthwhile. Even with a dynamic energy contract and automatic charging and selling, the savings remain too small for the battery to ever pay for itself in the examples calculated.
Yes. The tool sells no batteries and has no agreements with installers. Rankings and advice come only from the calculation for your situation. Some shop links provide a commission if you buy through them, but this does not affect the calculation, ranking, or advice and your price remains the same.
Because the calculation shows it sometimes. With certain combinations of consumption, solar panels and energy contract, no battery pays for itself within a reasonable timeframe. We simply say that honestly, and negative advice gets as much space and explanation as positive advice.
No. You do not need an account and we do not ask for personal data to make a calculation. This also applies to the ten-page advice report: it appears immediately on your screen and you do not need to leave an email address for it.
